Jane and Mike Bridge sent us some advice where to go looking for birds

Report 25 April- 2 May 2009

We came to Casa Rosa on the recommendation of 2 English birdwatching friends who  had commented on the the warm hospitality of their hosts plus wonderful food not to mention the number of birds to be seen in the garden over breakfast!  We were not disappointed.  Kjersti and Jan had recently taken over the running of Casa Rosa but the words of our birdwatching friends still rang true. The apartments are bright, welcoming  and cheerful.  Kjersti and Jan are on hand to provide excellent breakfasts taken on the terrace, some evening meals and iron out any potential worries.

For a list of birds see Paul and Lesley Langston`s report. Our stay overlapped. We can recommend a visit to Quinta de Marim, Rio Formosa Parque Naturel- not thateasy to locate but look for a postern gate in the obviously locked main gate- always open.  Enjoyed Cape St Vincent/Sagres-fantastic limestone pavement, fabulous flora and Quinta de Lago on the Rio Formosa- ignore the No Entry and Private signs! For Alentejo Plains around Castro Verde, a guide is essential if you want to see Great Bustards and the variety of raptors. Jane and Kjersti can arrange this for you.

We can heartily recommend Casa Rosafor those seeking relaxation, walking or birdwatching. It is ideally situated for visiting most parts of the Algarve.
