FEEDBACK

Azure winged Magpie

Here's what some of our previous guests have had to say about their stay at  CASA ROSA

We have enjoyed our return visit to Casa Rosa even more than our previous visit 3 years ago. By coming later we have been able to use your lovely pool. Birding in the garden produced a few new species and swallowtail butterfly were a joy to see. Thank you both for the delicious meals. Looking forward to our next visit! Roger and Sheila, Gloucestershire, England.

Thanks for another wonderful stay. We have enjoyed great birding despite the windy weather. On the calm sunny days we enjoyed the terrace and it was lovely to be able to use the pool. Kjersti’s meals were as marvellous as ever. Dave and Rosemary, Worcestershire, UK
 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our first visit to Casa Rosa has been a wonderful experience. The garden and surrounding area gave us an excellent birding experience. Our meals were delicious and the hospitality delightful. Dave and Val, Warwickshire, UK
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet another splendid break at Casa Rosa where there is always a guaranteed warm welcome, the chance to glimpse plenty of wildlife and of course delicious food from Kjersti’s kitchen. Looking forward to future visits and more swimming in the pool. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant. Barbara and Gwyneth, South Wales.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our first visit to Casa Rosa, and delighted the Algarve is not just about beaches – but Birds, Birds and Birds. Thank you our Norwegian hosts for a most delightful week. Graham, Lillian and Jill, Middelsex, UK.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once again we have enjoyed a lovely time at Casa Rosa. It has been a thoroughly relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings. We have seen over 60 species of birds. The most memorable being the flamingos flying at sunset over Fuseta. Thank you – we will be back. Susan and Malcolm, Nottingham, UK.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First time in Portugal and Casa Rosa. Had a great time, excellent birding and fantastic landscape. Casa Rosa is very relaxing and laidback. Kjersti and Jan-Ketil are excellent hosts. Would recommend this place for anyone. Thank you for a great holiday Mark and Helen, Derby. UK. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A month on a new campsite seemed a long time but Casa Rosa lived up to its promise. Your site is a relaxing and peaceful place in a perfect location. We knew the birding would be good but what other place has nightly “music” from Red Neck Nightjars and a view of a nesting Black Winged Kites! The car hire you organised was very good and meant we could visit all the well-known places for birds. We will return and find the species we missed! Ian Hayes and Diane Murray

Hello Kjersti and Jan-Ketil
Many thanks again for your hospitality - we sincerely enjoyed our stay at Casa Rosa, which gave the rest we needed! We sincerely enjoyed the appartment, the environment and the atmosphere (and dinner of course). For people interested in nature, Casa Rosa is a wonderful start, with Red-necked Nightjars 'of the house', the many Azure-winged Magpies and the Little Owl calling every night. Besides, it was a continue pleausure to see the Barn Swallows, House Martins and Red-rumped Swallows fly around the house, rest on parts of the building or take water (or insects, that's hard to see) from the swimming pool. As a 'thank you', I herewith send you some photographs of several subjects concerning Casa Rosa, or seen during our day trips. If you can use (some of) them for your website, please feel free to do that
Johanna Rynbeek and Paul Knolle

Dear Kjersti and Jan-Ketil
Thanks for a very nice time at your beautiful place! We enjoyed our week in the pleasant Portuguese spring a lot – and found almost all birds we were looking for. Since we found so many great places – buzzing with birdlife at this time of the year – we hardly had time to relax at your place. We keep that for our return…
All the best Mathias Schleuning and Monika Huaycochea. (Frankfurt, Germany and Cuzco, Peru)

Total relaxation at Casa Rosa has confirmed we made the right choice. This is a lovely spot and we have enjoyed everything it offers. Thank you to our hosts for an enjoyable meal on Thursday. Jan and Kjersti have been so helpful and we have had great information from them about the local area and its wildlife.
The apartment is really comfortable. We said YIPPEE when the weather improved and Jan opened the pool from its winter sleep.
“Takk” from Dennis and Lorrain Johnson, Pertshire, Scotland.

Excellent weather and most comfortable accommodation. Thanks to Jan and Kjersti for all their help and information and the lovely meal midweek. We enjoyed the birds and wildflowers and return to the UK much more relaxed and feeling healthy. We are hoping to return to Casa Rosa, maybe at a later date, say April time one year.
Bye for now
Rod and Jill Atkinson

We nearly did not get here because of gales in the UK. The first morning was fantastic – Hoopoes and Azul-winged magpies seen from our bedroom window before breakfast. We had a lovely week exploring locally, seeing lots of birds, enjoyed a wonderful meal with some of the other guests. We were able to stop and relax for the first time for months – just what we needed. Thank you Jan and Kjersti for your welcome and providing such a fantastic place.
Pete and Ethne Withlock , Isle of Wight, UK

Only one sad thing to say about our visit here is that we have to leave today. Everything was nice. This is a perfect place to stay if you want to watch birds in the Algarve as we did! Hearing hoopoes voice first thing you wake up in the morning, accompanied with azur-winged magpies, that is wonderful! We think this is one of the best  places we have stayed in our journey’s, thanks to you, Kjersti and Jan-Ketil. We hope you enjoy this as much as we did and we wish you all the best here for many many years. We hope we can come back here.
Jaana Sarvala and Timo Ikonen, Finland

We were very excited to spend our autumn holiday here at Casa Rosa after reading the website but it has far exceeded our expectations. Although the cloudy days did enable us to travel to good bird locations including Castro Marim, saltpans at Fuseta and Olhao + Quinta do Lago. Some may be heading to Africa now but we have seen flamingoes, storks avocets, black winged stilts, plovers - Grey and Kentish to name but a few. Raptors seen; unidentified eagle, marsh harriers,  osprey, little owl. Hoopoes and magpies frequent the gardens at Casa Rosa. Would definitely recommend Casa Rosa for bird watching plus the fabulous apartments, bistro evening, Kjersti and Jan’s hospitality. Perfect – will be back in the spring to see the wild flowers. Tusen takk .
Steve and Kathy Palmer, UK.

We have had s super week here at Casa Rosa and the Algarve. Kjersti and Jan-Ketil have been wonderful hosts, and it has been great that Casa Rosa tape into so much of the local supplier, from the morning bread rolls to the hire car. The grounds have been quiet and relaxing – a proper chance to get away from city life. The wildlife has been brilliant too from red-necked nightjar to little owls. And it is all in close distance to the town, villages, beaches, Spain mountains and national parks. Simply relaxing by the pool has been great too, and we very much enjoyed the special meal cooked by Kjersti. It is a shame we are unable to stay longer, but an evening flight mean we can spend another full day in Portugal.
Many, many thanks, Ed Drewitt and Liz Shaw

Thanks for a great stay at a fantastic location. Very friendly and helpful hosts and the apartment was spot on. The bread delivered daily was really nice. Casa Rosa is a great location to get to the rest of the Algarve and  other locations for birding. It was great to see short-toed eagle, little owl and barn owl within five minutes walk of the grounds of as well as hoopoe and to actually get a good view of a cuckoo instead of just hearing them! Seen a number of lifetime firsts on this trips and would love to come back and see some more. Have to say, a trip in the pool after a day’s walking was most enjoyable. Would highly recommend Casa Rosa as a base for an Algarve holiday to anyone who asks.
Cathal, Robert and Sean, UK

Lovely peacfull stay in unspoilt setting. We all thoroughly enjoyed our first experience of bird watching in the Algarve and were delighted to see over 140 species including a lot of “lifers”. Our favourite site was Ludo near to Faro airport. George proved to be an excellent guide on our 2 days out with him.
Thank you Kjersti and Jan-Ketil for your excellent hospitality, including the excellent dinners which we enjoyed in your lovely dining room. It was a great joy to celebrate Dave’s 60th birthday.
We all hope to return sometime soon.
Sheila and Roger, Dave and Rose and Anne, UK

Thank you for making us most welcome at the beautiful Casa Rosa. It has proved to be a great location for birding, 32 species on plot and 118 in total. Highlights – 20 Great Bustards in the Alantejo region, Rock Bunting at Monchique and Lesser spotted Woodpecker at Casa Rosa.
Will no doubt return in the future to catch the migration.
Paul and Ann Wilkins, Wimborne, UK

Casa Rosa is a fine place to stay, either for a week like us or much longer as other guests we met. Kjersti and Jan-Ketil are great hosts, friendly and always on hand if needed. Kjersti is also a very good cook – the prosk filet in mushroom sauce proves this.
Our week here provided an escape from heavy snows at home. Unfortunately Birmingham airport has re-opened so we must leave tomorrow.
A winter break here was excellent, but a spring or summer holiday at Casa Rosa might be much better? We will be back.

This is our first visit to mainland Algarve. We needed to get away from the stress at home and found Casa Rosa by typing “Algarve, birdwatching” in google. What a perfect hit! Here we have enjoyed nice swimming in the pool, breakfast served by our hosts at the terrace, had nice walks in the surroundings and got help from the hosts to hire a car for some days and getting around a bit in the whole of the Algarve.
Thank you for a delicious dinner, thank you for all your help and for answering all our questions. This place we will let all our friends know about. Close to it all, beautiful location and the peace and quiet you need.
Thank you Kjersti and Jan-Ketil – we hope to be allowed to come again.
5ht November 2012, Henrik and Catherina Westermark, Sibbo, Finland.

Our first time to Portugal and the Algarve, and we could not have picked a better or more friendly place to stay. Thanks to Jan-Ketil and Kjersti for being such attentive and helpful hosts, it makes everything else so easy! There has not been one single thing that we have not enjoyed during our stay and we have fallen in love with the people, the birding and Casa Rosa! 147 birds seen and 39 were lifers, i.e. seen for the first time!
Lots of lovely walks, empty beaches, traditional fishing villages and boat trips to do, on top of some of the best birdwatching in Europe. Makes us wonder what May would be like?
Many thanks Will and Priscilla, Oxford, UK.

We have had a lovely holiday at CASA ROSA. Kjersti and Jan have been so helpful and the meals on the terrace have been lovely and convivial.  Good food and just the right atmosphere. Of course we’ve also enjoyed the perfect weather and the pool before dinging!
We’ve enjoyed the best bird watching triops and the fantastic fish meals in Olhao.
Stephen and Gillian, Auckland, New Zealand

I had a very nice stay at Casa Rosa, the apartment well equipped and clean, lovely surroundings, the weather great and a nice dinner with you. I made a lot of trips on the bicycle, with which I was very happy, although the estimated times to go back and forth to Fuzeta were a bit on the positive side… Most of the time I spent bird-watching and although I did not see the rarer species I was very happy with it – there’s a list of some of the birds I saw;

Kjersti and Jan-Ketil
Our third visit in 18 months… that says it all. Had a fantastic time as usual. Thank you both for the hospitality and the beautiful meals. Very sad to be leaving. Hope to see you in October.
Thanks again Jane and Ger Griffin, Ireland

We have had an excellent week of birding around the local area and at Donana. Highly recommended for all Birdwatchers. We really enjoyed your wonderful meal and you made us feel very welcome. Love to visit again sometime in the future during Autumn time.
All the best from Geoff and Mark Hunt, UK

8 DAYS IN ALGARVE DAYS 9-16 (see previous)
As expected the "free ash" from Iceland halted our departure but luckily we were able to remain at Casa Rosa - thanks again to Jan-Ketil and Kjersti. After the hectic schedule of the original week life was at gentler pace and we took the enforced opportunity to venture both to the Coto Donana in Spain and Nundar Castle near Barrancas as well as revisiting our favorite sites of Quinta do Lago and Pera Marsh while we also visited Rocha Brava lighthouse near Portimao, got lost and ended up at the cliffs at Praia de Marina nearby and were rewarded with stunning views of Alpine Swifts.
The last couple of days saw the weather remember it was the Algarve not the UK and the final day - take 2 - spent around Casa Rosa saw a stunning display of flying by the Bee Eaters that lasted most of the day, an outstanding way to end our stay.
Chris and Phil, UK

We stayed at Casa Rosa for 1 week during our tour of Spain and Portugal and we wished we had booked for longer. Casa Rosa is a "real find". The apartment, pool and garden were clean and comfortable. This is an area away from the busy Algarve but plenty to see and do. Bird watching, walking, lovely beaches, interesting historical areas.
Thank you to Jan-Ketil and Kjersti for their hospitality, good food and information.
Hope to be back soon.
Denise and Tony, Lytham, UK

We have had a very good holiday here. Casa Rosa is just right for a restful and relaxing holiday, and Jan-Ketil and Kjersti have been most helpful and friendly. They have made us feel very welcome, and our apartment was comfortable with everything we needed.
We have enjoyed the birding very much, walking on the tracks round here, seeing bee-eaters, azure-winged magpies, Sardinean warblers and many other birds - delightful!
The weather has been mixed, and we did get very wet after one long walk! But the food cooked by Kjersti was excellent. The restaurant just down the road is also good value if more basic. We would be happy to come back for another holiday.
Thank you - Sandra and Ann, UK

Enjoyed our stay at Casa Rosa, picked for central location and bird watching and not disappointing. Azure Magpies every morning from kitchen window. We visited Castro Verde (twice), Ria Formosa, Castro Marim, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura and would recommend all to bird watchers. Jan and Kjersti very helpful and look forward to returning at some point. Vulcano erupting in Iceland may make it sooner than anyone might expect!
Chris and Phil, UK

Thank you Kjersti and Jan for making our week so comfortable and enjoyable. Apartment 6 with its dual aspect and big windows is ideal for indoor bird watching (yes it did rain for some of our time here!). Casa Rosa is an ideal base for bird watching giving day trip access to sites along the coast and inland on the plains. Within our 6 days we managed to record 132 species. Highlights include the flocks of migrating bee-eaters passing overhead all day when we were in Coto Donana and at Castro Verde; The close views (scoped at 300 m) of 6 male great bustards (some displaying) near Everreiro; the short-toed eagle that joined us for premium lunch close by; the very close views of a golden eagle close to Everreiro, the thriving house martin colonies in many of the towns and villages (sadly no longer in GB!), the palm tree nesting swifts in Tavira, the 12 caspian terns at Castro Marim, the collored pratincoles whizzing about in Coto Donana and of course the Barn owl in the well (owl at home need nest boxes 4 m up in the air!).
Memorable meal in your beautiful dining room - the pork fillet was superb - and as for the chocolate cake (- (can you send the recipe please). The recently opened "Mesa de chefe" tapas restaurant in Moncarapacho is highly recommended - a warm welcome and excellent food - looks like it will become very popular so best to book a table.
Back to get more rain and wind do doubt tomorrow.
Fred and Muriel Currie, Cornwall, UK

Jan and Kjersti
Thank you for a wonderful stay and a perfect, for me, ‘birthday week’, bird watching.  Lovely meals and warm hospitality.  We shall recommend Casa Rosa to our bird watching friend’s.
All the best for your future here.
Jane and Mike Bridge, Gloucestershire, UK

This was a super base for bird watching with Azure-winged Magpie, Woodchat Shrike, Hoopoe, Cukoo and  Bee-eater all in the grounds.  The whole atmosphere was very relaxed and our hosts were very helpful and informative.  Meals on the terrace – breakfast and dinner – were delightful and the apartment very comfortable.  We shall write a longer piece on our bird watching activities for the reports page.
Paul and Lesley Langston, UK

To Jan and Kjersti
Thanks very much for making our stay here pleasant.  The room was comfortable, clean, and ideal for our needs.  The location of Casa Rosa, for birdwatchers like us, is perfect for us, the wetlands of the Algarve, and to the plains of Alentejo, and so, the Coko Dainana in Spain.  In fact we couldn’t have had a better week, so thanks to you both.
Eddie Valentine and Dave Hardaker, Liverpool, UK.

Dear Jan and Kjersti
We had a lovely week at Casa Rosa.  The warm and friendly greeting continued with the warm and friendly duvets, making it hard to get up for early bird watching.  The setting for Casa Rosa is very peaceful, ideal for a relaxing time.  For us the location is ideally placed for bird watching as it is within easy reach of four major sites and 1,5 hour drive from the fantastic Alentejo region.  Of course Casa Rosa comes with its own resident Hoopoe, Woodchat shrike, Iberian Magpie and the only sub-terranian Barn Owl we have ever heard of.  The only unfortunate thing is not being able to sample Kjesti’s cooking (chocolate cake, especially), maybe next time.  We wish you alle the best for the future.
Clive and Sharon, Hampshire, UK.

Dear Kjersti and Jan
We had a wonderful stay at Casa Rosa.  Your hospitality was extraordinary.  Kjersti’s  dinners were excellent. Casa Rosa with its garden and surroundings was an ideal base for us to go birdwatching in the Algarve and the Alentejo.
We’ll come back in spring to look for those birds that are in Africa now.
Es waren  wunderschône Tage! All the best for you!
Anne und Manfred Schleuning, Sontra, Germany

We’ve had a wonderful week at Casa Rosa and have thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to the Algarve.  Thanks for the great dinner and all the help and information for getting around (without a car!).
The birding has been excellent.  We’ve seen the famous purple gallinule in Quinta de Marim.  The boat excursion through Ria Formosa from Faro was also really good;  many b irds to be seen and a nice visit to Ilha Deserta. Good luck with learning Portuguese!
Rashim and Alex, Holland

It is like coming home coming to Casa Rosa.  You have made it so comfortable – especially the beds! – and the garden is blossoming.  We shall think of you at Christmas in your beautiful dining room.  Thank you for your care.  We have had a lovely holiday and hopefully we will be back again next year.  Good luck to your both.
Best wishes from Rachel and Rustom Patel, Surrey, UK
PS – a wonderful addition to all the charms of Casa Rosa is the lovely young lady who comes for massage, pedicure, reflexology, etc. Everyone should try it.  Ds

Thank you Kjersti and Jan for a lovely week.  It has been very relaxing and enjoyable.  Casa Rosa is peaceful but also has a friendly atmosphere and we have had a good time with the other guests.
The location has been superb for birdwatching, according to my husband and son, and we have visited the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, Castro Verde and Castro Marim.
We enjoyed the fish marked in Olhao in the morning and Tavira is well worth visiting.  We’ve had nice dinners  here on the patio at ‘Kjersti Bistro’ and we also appreciated the restaurants on the square in Fuzeta.
Sagres is a great day trip and we also went on fishing and dolphin trips from Vilamoura.  Our children loved the pool, deep clean.
We’re sad to leave and hope we will come back.
Lena and Greg McIvor, Skanør, Sweden

Thank you for your kind hospitality.  We have had the good rest we needed and enjoyed watching the birds and butterflies etc. in the garden and round about the area.  The food was excellent, especially Kjersti’s chocolate cake and leasurely breakfasts on the terrace. Tusen takk!
Judith and Neil, Naltand, England

Thank you  Jan-Ketil and Kjersti for a wonderful holiday.  Nothing has been too much trouble for you, the apartment was clean and comfortable and Kjersti’s cooking excellent.  We hope to return next year for more of your hospitality.
Alan and Pauline Pegden, Lancaster, England

Kjersti and Jan-Ketil. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks here at Casa Rosa.  Thank you for all your helpful information and for your warm welcome and cheerful daily greetings.  The apartment was perfect – especially the Norwegian duvets!  The birding was excellent too!
John and Sharron Blaney, Ontario, Canada
PS - delicious food at the Bistro too.

I've stayed in many nice places around the world, but this has to be one of the best. Lovely people, great house, comfortable and well-equipped apartment, refreshing pool, tranquility, delicious food and convenient to the rest of the Algarve and southern Spain. Last but not least, lots of top spots to go birding! There are still a few that I didn't catch on camera, so I'll have to come back again sometime! Ian Montgomery, North Queensland. Australia.
